Howard Firkin
I greet the sun,
which shines for no reason.
I greet the rain,
which falls for no reason.
I greet the green things, small and mighty, microscopic, huge,
which grow for no reason.
I greet the dog,
which wags its tail
because God has given all things their smell,
Himself alone excepted,
the universal Scentlessness,
without a smell,
therefore invisible,
therefore almighty.
Today I greet almighty God.
